Ticketmaster Fees Finance Promoter Rebates, Court Testimony Confirms... Ticketmaster defends charging its customers a service fee (also called a booking fee) by saying it covers the company's costs. It's understandable that Ticketmaster needs to pay staff and cover credit card processing costs and the technology used to process purchases - as well as make a reasonable profit - yet concertgoers may ask themselves why these booking fees fluctuate so much.
Today's full-time musicians relies heavily upon touring revenue to make a living. Some even think they should forgo making money from recorded music entirely, and use it just to promote their tours. Maybe there's another avenue where they can make money - one that lies somewhere between selling recorded music and playing live shows.
I explain this distinction because music publishers, unlike record companies, are subject to government oversight when it comes to making licenses, specifically mechanical licenses (audio-only uses like a CD, digital download, streaming uses) with tech companies (Apple, Amazon, Google, etc.) and others. That's right, the government tells us what we can be paid for all mechanical licenses.

Which basically means, creating a unified platform that allows any artist to easily pitch an experience on a regular basis, without having to cobble the entire thing together, every time. Which sort of mimics the game-changing platforms created by other startups like airbnb: of course, people were swapping their pads before, but now, it's a whole lot easier, far more profitable, and safer.

Leave it to Prince to release a new music video and charge the completely arbitrary price of $1.77 to watch it. The clip for his new single "Screwdriver" is available for purchase over here. Prince is famously strict in ensuring that his image and his work don't appear online without permission, so chances are you're not going to find too many illegally ripped/uploaded copies of the video that are around very long.
"Screw Driver" loosely tells the tale of an underestimated girl rock band that gets beckoned by His Royal Princeness to join him for a lo-fi rock performance that inspires a floor full of dancers. The production values are similarly rough around the edges, with a purposeful grainy b/w video grade, and a structure that includes a "boys vs. girls" narrative interlude and an ending sequence that's scored with horror movie cues.
Consequence of Sound also points out that there's a new Prince song available for purchase called "Breakfast Can Wait". It's a response to Kreayshawn's "Breakfast", haha, just kidding.
