We are learning about making musical instruments using everyday household items. Today we are going to make a tom tom. The best thing to do is to find a oatmeal container or any kind of container will work. This is a toilet roll holder from a office. This would also work but we are going to use a oatmeal container. The first thing you are going to do is actually cover it so you could decorate it. I have already put one sheet on here so the next thing that you do is actually cover it on the other side. So now it is covered. If you want to you could go ahead and decorate it at this time. Putting some strips or whatever you want to do on the drum. Of course it could take a longer to do some pretty patterns then what I have done. The next thing that you are going to do is punch out the bottom of the container. So now we could look straight through. We now have a cylinder and a little bit of oatmeal. So that is what we do next. The next thing we do is take a balloon and you are going to cut off the narrow part of the balloon. After you have stretch it over someone else needs to put a elastic band over the top. That is one end now repeat with the other end. Then you could get a pencil with a eraser at the end of it and you got a tom tom. You could make smaller ones any kind of sizes you want as long as the balloon could stretch over it. This is a smaller one.
We are learning how to make musical instruments out of everyday household items. Today we are going to make a lute or a guitar. What you will need is shoe box, a variety of different rubber bands, some scissors, a couple of pencils, and that will be it. The first thing you are going to do is actually make a hole in the shoe box. So take some scissors and cut out a hole in the shoe box lid. Now we have a hole. Make sure that it is nice and smooth. Then next thing we are going too do is put on our elastic bands. Start with your thickest closes to you. Depending on how big your shoe box is will depend on which way you put your elastic bands. I'm going to put the next largest one on. Then the next largest. Then one more I could either do four or six strings. I'm just going to do four. Then you take two pencils and you are going to put them towards the end of the box. On both sides. This is your bridge so now this is our guitar.
We are learning about making musical instruments out of everyday items. Today we are going to make a kazoo. You will need to find towel roll holder, some wax paper or parchment paper, a rubber band elastic band, and some thing to actually punch a hole you could use scissors a sharp pen would work also. First thing you are going to do is you are going to cut a circle a little bit bigger then the toilet roll so I'm going to mark off the circle just around it doesn't have to be perfect. I'm going to cut it out. Next thing you are going to do you are going to put it over the end and put on a elastic band. You know you want to try to keep the paper as tight as possible and as smooth as possible. So once you got the parchment paper nice and smooth and put on your elastic band. It is good not to have it elastic band to thick. These would actually be to thick. If they are to strong they would crush the toilet roll so it need to be a fairly thin one. Next thing you are going to do is you are going to make little hole just below where you put your elastic band so I'm going to trim a little bit of this paper away. So you take some either some scissors or a sharp pen and you actually push push them in to make a hole right below where the rubber band is. So then you put your lips to the open end and you sing.
We are learning about making musical instruments using everyday household items. We are going to be making a filled tambourine. You are going to need some heavy paper plates and some beans or some rice or some popcorn to fill these. You are also going to need some duct tape. So today I'm going to take some at least two paper plates. Now if you want to you could decorate the backs of the plates. I have already gone ahead and decorated that but make sure if you want to decorate it you do that first. The next thing you are going to do is you are going to put some beans or some rice on one of the plates. Put some beans maybe some popcorn, maybe some split peas, and maybe some rice to hope that makes a nice sound. Then we are going to put the other plate on top. Now what we are going to do is take some duct tape and we are going to tape all around the edge. So I found it easier to do the little strips. You want to make sure that it is nice and tight together. Once you have done all four corners even though there is no corners on a circle then you could go back and tape all around. So once I have done four portions then I'm going to take one continual piece and go all the way around. Now it is just a question of folding it down. Now we have a very nice instrument.
We are learning about making musical instruments out of everyday objects. Today we are going to learn how to make a oboe double reed. The first that you do is find a straw, then the other thing we are going to need are a pair of scissors. First thing you are going to do is flatten the end. It is not going to flatting all the way but just flatting it out a little bit. Then you are going to cut so it is a point on the end of the straw. So now you have a point on the end of the straw. So lets just see how this sounds without doing anything else to it. You are going to put it in your mouth and you are going to hold it light. You don't squeeze it to tightly, hold it, and you got a nice sound to it. Well not nice but a sound. So the next thing we are going to do is actually cut a couple of holes. So what you want to do is still keep it on the same side where the point is showing. We are going to make a little hole. Again just a little tiny snip. So it is just a very little hole. You could see that then I'm going to cut another little hole. Just a little bit further down. Again I'm using like little tiny triangles into the. Now I have two holes. So I'm going to put my fingers over these two holes and I'm going to put the instrument in my mouth. You could make all kinds of fun noises from this just by wiggling your fingers over the open holes.
